USAHIHI

Nairobi to Mombasa Expressway

Nairobi to Mombasa Expressway

USAHIHI is a Consortium that will Finance the Construction of a New High-speed Expressway in the Most Important Transport Corridor in East Africa.

The road from Mombasa – the main port city on the East Coast of Africa – to Nairobi and further inland is the main road for trucks and passenger vehicles. Currently, this road is two lanes, winding and very dangerous. With the creation of the new modern dual carriage expressway, the current 10 hour journey between Nairobi and Mombasa will be shortened to approximately 4-1/2 hours.

The USAHIHI Expressway Represents a Revolutionary Milestone
in Kenya’s Infrastructure Development.

Usahihi, I am the new way to the future.

Our mission. Constructing the USAHIHI Expressway as a pioneering example of transparent, sustainable, and community-focused infrastructure, fostering economic growth, environmental protection, and global inspiration for ethical development.

Unlocking an Array of Benefits

The USAHIHI Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway is poised to deliver significant time and cost savings to its users, but more notably, it will facilitate the secure, efficient, and comfortable movement of people and goods within East Africa.

Mombasa, boasting a modernized port, serves as the primary gateway to East Africa and is experiencing remarkable annual growth rates. Nairobi, the second fastest-growing city globally, stands as Kenya’s economic epicenter. The USAHIHI Nairobi-Mombasa Expressway, therefore, plays a vital role in establishing an economic bridge between these two major Kenyan cities.

Furthermore, this road serves as the inaugural segment of the Northern Economic Corridor, linking Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to Mombasa. This corridor heavily relies on road transport for freight movement, making this expressway unparalleled in its potential to generate economic opportunities not just for Kenya but for the entire East African region.

Paving a Path to the Future

Enhancing Lives, Empowering Communities.

Enhanced Safety

The new modern expressway between Nairobi and Mombasa will improve transit safety. The Expressway features safe overtaking lanes and rest areas strategically placed to prevent driver fatigue. Shrubs in the median will reduce glare from oncoming lights, further enhancing roadway safety.

Economic Prosperity

The Expressway will fulfill the aspirations of Kenyan citizens by providing dignified and affordable housing while also generating tremendous job opportunities along the corridor. It facilitates exports with easy access to the port of Mombasa.

Savings

Users will experience significant savings in terms of reduced fuel and maintenance costs due to fewer starts and stops per trip. This cost savings will be particularly beneficial to freight operators.

Environmental Responsibilities

The USAHIHI Expressway will be designed to have minimal impact on the environment in it’s design and materials. By minimizing start-stop fuel consumption, the Expressway will contribute to reduced carbon emissions. Solar energy will power toll plazas along the route, further promoting sustainability.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure

The installation of electric vehicle charging stations will encourage the use of electric buses and other eco-friendly vehicles on the toll road, contributing to a greener transport system.

Noise Reduction

Existing residents along the route will experience lower noise levels. A 400-kilometer “tree line” from Nairobi to Mombasa will enhance the landscape.

Wildlife Protection

Specially designed animal crossings, developed in consultation with wildlife agencies, will safeguard local fauna and preserve the natural environment.

Tourist Enhancement

The Expressway promises to enrich the tourism experience, making it more accessible and enjoyable for both domestic and international travelers.

Unlocking Kenya’s Wealth Corridor

Everstrong Capital distinguishes itself by offering to construct, finance, and operate the USAHIHI Expressway, a state-of-the-art dual carriage 4-6 lane expressway, without imposing risks on the Kenyan government. This project is removed from Kenya’s balance sheet and is designed to pay for itself, representing a wealth corridor opportunity.

The accompanying TVET training program invests in skills transfer, enterprise development, and job creation, with over 5,000 jobs expected to be created. This initiative is set to bring in an international investment of $3.6 billion USD, with contributions from both international and local private investors and pension funds.
